Subtractive Manufacturing

Subtractive manufacturing is ideal for particularly complex applications with tight tolerances or geometries. Find out here about the different manufacturing methods and how you can further increase their efficiency with special software solutions.

Subtractive Manufacturing

Subtractive Manufacturing involves machining or removing material from a solid starting material such as metal or plastic blocks by cutting, milling, drilling and grinding to create a new workpiece. Find out more about applications for machining and the many benefits this method of production has to offer here.

Subtractive Manufacturing

In subtractive manufacturing, material is removed from a solid starting material, such as metal or plastic blocks, by cutting, milling, drilling or grinding and a new workpiece is created. Find out more about the fields of application of machining and the many advantages of this type of manufacturing for the efficient production of your designs.

Use Cases for Subtractive Manufacturing

Use subtractive manufacturing to produce prototypes, individual parts, series and small series parts as well as manufacturing tools and manufacturing parts from plastic and metal. The process is particularly suitable for complex applications with tight tolerances and geometries. Find out more about typical areas of application.

CNC Machining

Manufacturing components using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) data on different CNC equipment. Layer by layer, material is removed and the desired component shape is created.

Electrical Discharge Machining

The electrical discharge machining (EDM) method for conductive materials allows you to create the required component by electrical ablation (arcing).

Laser Cutting

Use high energy CNC laser cutting to melt or vaporize the material to be machined to produce the required part.

Advantages of Subtractive Manufacturing

Subtractively manufactured workpieces achieve maximum precision and complexity. With the MAKE software portfolio (CAD, CAM, Additive), Cideon supports efficient planning, execution and monitoring of production. Benefits to you:

Efficient CNC Machining

Increase CNC machining efficiency with short programming and calculation times, for example, by using software tools to determine tool paths and to simulate, check and optimize the paths of CNC robots and CNC machines.

Automated Processes

Automate CNC processes from design through to NC code. CAM software reduces programming effort by up to 70 percent while increasing programming consistency for different CNC applications.

Consistently High Quality

Ensure consistently high quality by using the right software. Check and measure workpieces directly on the machine and avoid time-consuming part removal and reclamping.

Reverse Engineering

Use reverse engineering to machine complex 3D geometries. Use CAM software to create multi-axis CNC high-speed machining with minimal effort.

Exploit (additive) Manufacturing Potential

Harness the manufacturing potential of additive manufacturing/ 3D printing with Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), including the integrated capabilities for 3D print preparation, design optimization, simulation of sintering processes for metals and CNC post-processing planning.

Fast Data Management

Avoid data confusion due to incorrect or missing interfaces and a lack of software compatibility. CAD/CAM combination systems ensure direct data preparation within the software environment and with no error-prone transfers from one tool to another.
