Suspension Systems for Medical Applications
Suspension systems allow equipment and instruments to be moved and positioned freely within a room with minimal effort. When used with larger systems, they also ensure connections to power, data, air, or hydraulic lines.
As a leading global provider, Ondal Medical Systems GmbH has been developing and manufacturing suspension systems for the safe, ergonomic, and reliable handling of medical equipment for more than six decades. These systems are available in a wide range of standard models as well as customer- and project-specific configurations.
SAP Upgrade for Future-Proof Data Management
The development and design of the support systems is carried out centrally at the main site in Hünfeld. For design work, the approximately 25 employees in product development use the Autodesk products AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor. SAP CAD Desktop (CDESK), a product data and product lifecycle management system, along with the ProPLMClient add-on, supports the management of the entire product lifecycle, including engineering changes.
To ensure long-term data integrity and system scalability, Ondal planned to replace its SAP R/3 ERP software with an on-premise SAP S/4HANA implementation. With benefits such as an in-memory database, an intuitive user interface, and integrated workflows, this solution provides a robust and future-proof digital foundation.
At the same time, product data management was to be converted to the SAP Engineering Control Center (SAP ECTR), which is built on the SAP database.
“We decided to migrate to SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECTR in one go,” recalls Markus Trapp, Head of IT at Ondal and overall project manager for the SAP S/4HANA project. “The arguments against it were outweighed by the fact that we only had to migrate the product data once.”
