Madaus GmbH – Output Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry
The Madaus GmbH company in Cologne is one of Germany’s most successful manufacturers of highly effective phytopharmacon. The “made by Madaus” products also have an excellent reputation internationally.
Today MADAUS, which has a history which goes back to when it was established in 1919, is known as a modern and progressive international company which mainly develops and produces highly effective plant remedies and is a specialist in the field of urology. The range of remedies includes the innovative “MADAUS Be Well – Bausteine für’s Leben” nutrition products and preventative and health care products as well as cosmetics.
In 2004 Madaus was looking for a solution to support its paper-based change management system through an electronic system of managing production and test instructions. Frank Lutz, head of the company’s IT department, placed special emphasis on combining an SAP integration with low project and operating costs. In the end he chose the SAP document administration system (DVS). Through a link to the mail system users can always be informed about the Workflow steps. The documents are printed using an integrated output management software.
At the beginning of 2005 management contacted various vendors. The system was meant to fulfil as many requirements and be introduced as quickly as possible. The presentation of the Plotting Solution by Cideon went very well. All requirements could almost be implemented in the standard format as this corresponds with the high quality standards which are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
The document administration was meant to allow the production of printouts with controlled stamps. Each user had to be able to acknowledge either a successful or an unsuccessful printing procedure, and each printing procedure had to be documented by an Audit Trail.
The definition of the stamping of the documents must also be unrestricted. Along with standard document information the system was also meant to allow classifications such as “confidential” or “approved” to be stamped onto the documents. For various processing stages different stamps were to be used. Another requirement was that all Office documents had to be converted in PDF format by the AutoORG® conversion server.
Madaus was convinced of the ability of the CIDEON software and also valued the well-organised quality management. Other important points included the pricing policy and the quick implementation.
The installation of the CIDEON plotting solution and the CIDEON conversion server went smoothly. This was followed by extensive tests to ensure that the required features had been implemented correctly.
The good teamwork enabled us to meet the Go Live date. The next step will be to link additional parts of the company to the system.
